Bruteforce is among the oldest hacking techniques, it is also one of the simplest automated attacks requiring minimum knowledge and intervention by the attacker. The attack consists in multiple login attempts using a database of possible usernames and passwords until matching.
This attack can be prevented by forbidding users more than X number of attempts per minute. Dictionary Txt Crack A RouterIf you want to crack a router password to access wifi youll use dictionaries containing a minimum of 8 characters, if you want to crack a ssh service, then youll use a usernames database containing the user root. It comes by default with Kali and is supported by DebianUbuntu default repositories. Defending ourselves against such attacks is very easy, does not require sysadmin level knowledge, and varied options are available, doing it is a basic must to keep your device safe. There appears to be some work by someone for a paid list though at but I am looking for something hopefully free. If testing in an environment with strong password complexity and length requirements, brute force and rainbow tables will not be useful options, so while you may have the most common passwords at the top of a list it may still be worthwhile to use a full list if you really want to crack them. Or you can hunt down leaks and use them as a basis, over time developing good lists. See the twitter feeds of pastebinleaks and keep an eye on the news and hunt down leaks that are announced, especially when in plaintext. Some were leaked during real attacks, so they are pretty recent.
